សិស្សានុសិស្សភាគច្រើនធ្វើដំណើរទៅសាលារៀនតាមរយៈមធ្យោបាយធ្វើដំណើរ ដូចជា ម៉ូតូ, ឡាន, ឡានក្រុងសាធារណៈ ឬដើរថ្មើរជើង ប៉ុន្តែសិស្សានុសិស្ស រស់នៅតាមបណ្ដាកោះដាច់ស្រយាល ត្រូវធ្វើដំណើរឆ្លងកាត់ផ្ទៃជលសាទន្លេមេគង្គជារៀងរាល់ថ្ងៃ ដែលជារឿយៗពោរពេញទៅដោយហានិភ័យ និងភាពប្រែប្រួលនៃធម្មជាតិ។ នៅក្នុងអត្ថបទនេះ ក្រុមការងារមជ្ឈមណ្ឌលឯកសារកម្ពុជា សាខាខេត្តស្ទឹងត្រែង បានស្វែងយល់អំពីខ្សែជីវិត ក៏ដូចជាការរៀបរាប់ទាំងស្នាមញញឹម និងទឹកភ្នែក ជុំវិញការតស៊ូក្នុងការសិក្សារបស់យុវតីម្នាក់ឈ្មោះ កិន ហៀ សិស្សថ្នាក់ទី៨ នៃអនុវិទ្យាល័យអូរស្វាយ ដែលរស់នៅលើទឹកដីភូមិកោះឈើទាលតូច ឃុំព្រះរំកិល ស្រុកបុរីអូរស្វាយសែនជ័យ ខេត្តស្ទឹងត្រែង។ រឿងរ៉ាវរបស់ហៀ មិនត្រឹមតែឆ្លុះបញ្ចាំងពីជីវភាព និងស្ថានភាពភូមិសាស្ត្រដ៏លំបាកនៃអ្នករស់នៅតាមបណ្ដាកោះដាច់ស្រយាលនោះទេ ប៉ុន្តែថែមទាំងបង្ហាញពីការតស៊ូ ព្រមទាំងក្តីសង្ឃឹមរបស់ក្នុងការទទួលបានការអប់រំ និងក្លាយទៅជាធនធានសម្រាប់សហគមន៍របស់ខ្លួន។
ភូមិកោះឈើទាលតូច គឺជាភូមិមួយស្ថិតនៅក្រោមសមត្ថកិច្ចគ្រប់គ្រងរដ្ឋបាលនៃឃុំព្រះរំកិល ស្រុកបុរីអូរស្វាយ សែនជ័យ។ កាលពីដើមមក ភូមិនេះ មានឈ្មោះថា កោះសិលា ប៉ុន្តែត្រូវបានផ្លាស់ប្ដូរឈ្មោះឡើយវិញថា «កោះឈើទាលតូច» ដោយមូលហេតុ នៅពេលនោះ នៅចំណុចត្រង់ក្បាលកោះ មានដើមឈើទាលដុះជាច្រើន ដែលធ្វើឲ្យអ្នកភូមិជិះឆ្លងកាត់ មានការចំណាំ ហើយហៅតៗគ្នាថា ឈើទាលតូច រហូតមកដល់បច្ចុប្បន្ននេះ។ បច្ចុប្បន្ននេះ ភូមិកោះឈើទាលតូច មានគ្រួសាររស់នៅ សរុបចំនួន១២៨ គ្រួសារ ដែលមានប្រជាជនសរុបប្រមាណ៥៥០នាក់។ មុខរបរចញ្ចឹមជីវិតរបស់អ្នកភូមិកោះឈើទាលតូច គឺការធ្វើកសិកម្ម (ដំាស្រូវ និងដំណាំកសិកម្ម), ការនេសាទតាមដងទន្លេមេគង្គ, ការលក់ដូរនៅផ្ទះ និងការធ្វើចំណាកស្រុក។ ដោយសារតែស្ថានភាពភូមិសាស្ត្រ ជាកោះដាច់ស្រយាល, ភូមិកោះឈើទាលតូច មានលទ្ធភាពផ្តល់ការអប់រំត្រឹមតែកម្រិតបឋមសិក្សាប៉ុណ្ណោះ គឺនៅសាលាបឋមសិក្សាកោះឈើទាលតូច។ ហេតុដូចនេះ សិស្សានុសិស្ស ដែលរៀនសូត្ររហូតដល់បញ្ចប់ថ្នាក់ទី៦ និងចង់បន្តការសិក្សាត្រូវធ្វើដំណើរឆ្លងកាត់ទន្លេមេគង្គមកកាន់ដីគោកក្នុងស្រុកបុរីអូរស្វាយសែនជ័យ ដើម្បីចូលរៀននៅអនុវិទ្យាល័យអូរស្វាយ និងវិទ្យាល័យបុរីអូរស្វាយ សែនជ័យ។ ការធ្វើដំណើរតាមផ្លូវទឹកនេះ គឺជាហានិភ័យដ៏ធំមួយ ដែលបណ្តាលឲ្យសិស្សានុសិស្សមួយចំនួនប្រឈមនឹងការបោះបង់ការសិក្សា ដោយសារតែកត្តាសុវត្ថិភាព កម្រិតជីវភាព និងភាពស៊ូទ្រាំ។ សិស្សានុសិស្ស អាចចូលរួមចំណែកជួយការងារគ្រួសារដូចជា រៀបចំសំណាញ់នេសាទ មើលថែទាំចម្ការ និងមើលថែប្អូនតូចៗនៅផ្ទះ។ ការចំណាយលើការធ្វើដំណើរតាមទូក ឬការទិញសម្ភារៈធ្វើទូក គឺជាឧបសគ្គផ្នែកហិរញ្ញវត្ថុមួយយ៉ាងធ្ងន់ធ្ងរក្នុងគ្រួសារ ដែលរុញច្រានឲ្យសិស្សានុសិស្សសម្រេចចិត្តបោះបង់ការសិក្សា។ ទាំងមាតាបិតា និងសិស្សានុសិស្សផ្ទាល់ តែងតែមានការព្រួយបារម្ភយ៉ាងខ្លាំងចំពោះសុវត្ថិភាព និងហានិភ័យក្នុងការធ្វើដំណើរឆ្លងកាត់ផ្ទៃទន្លេមេគង្គ ដូចជា បញ្ហាចរន្តទឹកហូរខ្លាំង និងការកើតមានភ្លៀងខ្យល់បោកបក់ខ្លាំងៗ។ បើទោះជាយ៉ាងនេះក្តី សិស្សានុសិស្សនៅតែខិតខំប្រឹងប្រែង លះបង់ទាំងពេលវេលា និងកម្លាំងកាយចិត្ត ក្នុងការពុះពារបន្តការសិក្សា ដោយហេតុថា ការអប់រំដែលបត់បែនទៅតាមចង្វាក់លំហូរនៃទន្លេមេគង្គនេះ នឹងជួយបង្កើតឱកាសសម្រាប់ខ្លួនទទួលបានចំណេះដឹង និងក្លាយជាធនធានដ៏មានតម្លៃសម្រាប់សហគមន៍ទៅថ្ងៃអនាគត។
ខ្សែជីវិតនៃការសិក្សារបស់សិស្ស កិន ហៀ គឺមិនដូចរឿងនិទាន ឬរឿងប្រលោមលោក ដែលអាចតែងតែមានដំណោះស្រាយស្រាប់ដើម្បីនាំផ្លូវនោះទេ ប៉ុន្តែវាជាជីពិតរបស់ក្មេងស្រីម្នាក់ ដែលត្រូវឆ្លងកាត់ផ្ទៃទឹកទន្លេមេគង្គដោយកម្លាំងចិត្ត និងស្មារតី។ ជារៀងរាល់ព្រឹកព្រលឹម ហៀ ត្រូវក្រោកពីដំណេកនៅម៉ោង៤ព្រឹក និងបំពេញការងារផ្ទះ មានដូចជា ដាំបាយ, ខ្ចប់បាយ និងបោសសំអាត មុនពេលចុះទូកជិះទៅកាន់ផែរង់ចាំអូរស្វាយ ដើម្បីបន្តទៅសិក្សានៅអនុវិទ្យាល័យអូរស្វាយ។ អ្វីដែល ហៀ ត្រូវប្រឈមទៀតនោះ គឺភាពត្រជាក់ និងខ្សែទឹកហូរបោកបក់ ដែលទាមទារឲ្យមានការតាំងស្មារតី និងសេចក្ដីក្លាហានក្នុងដំណើរឆ្ពោះទៅកាន់ការសិក្សាអប់រំនេះ។ នៅថ្ងៃមួយ ហៀ បានជួបគ្រោះថ្នាក់ ដោយសារតែចរន្តខ្សែទឹកហូរខ្លាំង បណ្ដាលឲ្យទូកតូចរបស់ខ្លួនហូរទៅបុកគល់ឈើ និងផ្ទាំងថ្ម ហើយស្ទើរតែបាត់បង់លំនឹង។ ប៉ុន្តែជាសំណាងល្អ ហៀ មិនមានគ្រោះថ្នាក់អ្វីឡើយនៅពេលនោះ។ បើទោះបីជាយ៉ាងនេះក្ដី សៀវភៅ សម្ភារៈសិក្សា និងសម្លៀកបំពាក់របស់ខ្លួន បានទទឹកខូចខាតអស់។ បើទោះបីជាគ្រានោះពិបាកខ្លាំងយ៉ាងណាក៏ដោយ ហៀមិនព្រមបោះបង់ការសិក្សានោះទេ ពីព្រោះតែទទួលបានការគាំទ្រ និងលើកទឹកចិត្តពីឪពុកម្ដាយ ហើយហៀ នៅតែមានជំនឿចិត្តយ៉ាងមុតមាំថា៖ «មានតែការអប់រំបុណ្ណោះ ទើបអាចជួយគ្រួសារ និងសហគមន៍របស់ខ្ញុំចេញពីភាពលំបាក ដែលខ្ញុំកំពង់តែជួបប្រទះនេះបាន។» រហូតមកដល់បច្ចុប្បន្ននេះ ទុក្ខកង្វល់ និងភាពភ័យខ្លាចរបស់ឪពុកម្ដាយ និងហៀ ត្រូវបានជំនួសមកវិញនូវស្នាមញញឹម និងក្ដីសង្ឃឹម បន្ទាប់ពីទទួលបានទូកចម្លងសហគមន៍ ដែលមិនត្រឹមតែមានទំហំធំ និងសុវត្ថិភាពខ្ពស់ បំពាក់ទៅដោយអាវពោងសុវត្ថិភាព ជាច្រើន ប៉ុន្តែថែមទាំងមិនយកកម្រៃ ក្រោមការឧបត្ថម្ភគាំទ្រពីព្រះរាជបណ្ណាល័យហ្លួងម៉ែ និងមជ្ឈមណ្ឌលឯកសារកម្ពុជា។ បើទោះបីជាស្ថិតក្នុងស្ថានភាពដ៏លំបាកនៃវិបត្តិតម្លៃប្រេងឥន្ធនៈសកល ដែលបង្កឡើងដោយសង្គ្រាមនៅមជ្ឈិមបូព៌ាយ៉ាងណាក៏ដោយ, ព្រះរាជបណ្ណាល័យហ្លួងម៉ែ និងមជ្ឈមណ្ឌលឯកសារកម្ពុជា នៅតែបន្តជួយដឹកជញ្ជូន ហៀ និងសិស្សផ្សេងទៀតនៅតាមបណ្ដាកោះដាច់ស្រយាល ទៅរៀនជាធម្មតា ដែលអនុញ្ញាតឲ្យអាចការបន្តការសិក្សាទៅមុខយ៉ាងរលូន ដោយគ្មានការអាក់ខានឡើយ។ ជំនួយមនុស្សធម៌នេះ មិនត្រឹមតែផ្ដល់ឱកាសដល់យើងខ្ញុំទទួលការអប់រំប៉ណ្ណោះនោះទេ ប៉ុន្តែថែមទាំងលើកទឹកចិត្តដល់ហៀ និងសិស្សផ្សេងទៀតលែងមានគំនិតបោះបង់ការសិក្សាផងដែរ។

Amid the Monsoonal Mekong Currents, No Obstacle Can Restrain the Youth of Borei O’Svay Sen Chey from Pursuing an Education

While most students travel to school by motorcycle, car, public transport, bicycle, or on foot, students living on remote islands along the Mekong River of Borei O’Svay Sen Chey District, Stung Treng Province, face a very different reality. Every school day, they must cross the river by boat, confronting unpredictable weather, strong currents, and constant safety risks. For these students, attending school is not simply a daily routine but it is an act of determination and courage toward education.
This article, prepared by our team at the Stung Treng Documetation Center, tells the story of both hardship and hope through the educational journey of Kin Hea, an eighth-grade student at O’Svay Secondary School. Living on Koh Chheuteal Touch village in Preah Romkel Commune, Borei O’Svay Sen Chey District, Stung Treng Province, her experience reflects the challenges faced by many students in remote borderland communities along the Mekong. At the same time, it demonstrates how resilience, family support, and community initiatives can help transform lives through education.
Koh Chheuteal Touch Village
Koh Chheuteal Touch is a small island village located in Preah Romkel Commune, Borei O’Svay Sen Chey District. Formerly known as Koh Seila, the village was later renamed Koh Chheuteal Touch after the numerous Chheuteal trees that once grew abundantly at the edge of the island. For generations, these trees served as a landmark for villagers navigating the Mekong River, and the name has remained part of the village’s identity.
Today, the village is home to approximately 128 households, with a population of around 550 people. Most residents depend on rice cultivation, seasonal farming, fishing along the Mekong River, small family-run businesses, and migrant labor for their livelihoods. Because of its isolated location, educational opportunities on the island are limited to Koh Chheuteal Touch Primary School. After completing Grade 6, students who wish to continue their education must travel across the Mekong River everyday to attend O’Svay Secondary School and, later, Borei O’Svay Sen Chey High School on the mainland. For many families, this journey presents significant challenges. Dangerous river conditions, transportation costs, and physical exhaustion discourage some students from continuing their studies. Some leave school to help support their families by fishing, farming, caring for younger siblings, or earning additional income. Even families able to afford small boats face constant anxiety over the dangers posed by powerful river currents, submerged obstacles, and sudden tropical storms, particularly during the monsoon season. Yet despite these obstacles, many students continue their education with remarkable perseverance. They believe that education offers the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to improve their lives and contribute to the future development of their community.

Every morning, Kin Hea wakes at 4:00 a.m. to prepare for the day. Before leaving for school, she cooks rice, packs her lunch, and completes household chores. She then boards a small boat to cross the Mekong River to O’Svay ferry dock before continuing to O’Svay Secondary School. Each journey requires her to navigate cold morning winds, strong currents, and changing weather conditions. Every crossing demands patience, concentration, and courage.
One day, her small boat struck a submerged tree trunk and nearby rocks after being swept away by powerful river currents. The boat nearly capsized. Although she escaped without injury, her school uniform, books, and learning materials were soaked and destroyed.
Despite the frightening experience, Kin Hea never considered giving up her education.
“My parents have always encouraged me to continue studying,” she explains. “I firmly believe that only education can help improve the lives of my family and contribute to the development of my community.”
Today, however, the fears once shared by Kin Hea and her parents have largely been replaced by hope.
That change came with the introduction of a community ferry boat supported by the Queen Mother Library and the Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam). Larger and much safer than the small private boats previously used by students, the ferry is equipped with life jackets and operates free of charge, ensuring that students from remote islands can travel safely to school.
Even amid rising fuel costs associated with ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, the Queen Mother Library and DC-Cam have continued operating the transportation service without interruption. As a result, students can continue their education safely and consistently without placing additional financial burdens on their families.
For many students, this humanitarian initiative represents far more than transportation. It has restored confidence, reduced the risk of school dropout, and renewed hope for a better future through education.
Conclusion
The story of Kin Hea and many other students from Koh Chheuteal Touch village demonstrates that neither geographical isolation nor the powerful currents of the Mekong River can extinguish a young person’s determination to learn. Their resilience, strengthened by the unwavering support of their families and community, continues to carry them toward a brighter future.
The community boat made possible through the support of the Queen Mother Library and the Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam), in cooperation with the Borei O’Svay Sen Chey District Administration has become much more than a means of transportation. It is a lifeline that has transformed fear into confidence, danger into safety, and uncertainty into opportunity.
Most importantly, it serves as a bridge to education, enabling students from remote Mekong islands to continue learning, pursue their aspirations, and one day return as educated leaders and skilled professionals committed to the sustainable development of their communities.
