THE PERSONA OF THE KING: SYMBOL OF CAMBODIA’S UNITY AND PEACE
Civic Duty and the Legacy of the Cambodian Monarchy
Remembering the coronation of the King is more than an administrative act of government or a national holiday to spend time with family or friends; it is also an important act of civic engagement, whereby people recognize their collective duty to country and celebrate the spirit of the nation as reflected in the persona of the King and the legacy of all Cambodian leaders.
Peace and stability in Cambodia begins and ends with its government, which is representative of and beholden to the people. Like all countries, Cambodia has not always had good rulers in government. Indeed, there was a time when the government was at war with its own people, and the country consumed itself in horrific violence and genocide.
Taking time to respect the coronation of the King is more than just an act of honoring the King, it is also an important opportunity for educating the next generation about the history of sacrifice and resilience that underpin Cambodia’s peace and stability today through the legacy of the King, the King Father, her Majesty the Queen Mother, and all Cambodia’s great leaders.
