Film Screening: First They Killed My Father

At 11:30 AM on May 15, 2026, the Prey Veng Documentation Center welcomed six female students from the Prey Veng Applied Secondary School. The students visited the center with the specific purpose of watching the documentary film “First They Killed My Father.”
Through watching the film for over an hour, the students gained insights into the forced evacuation of people from cities, the suppression of basic freedoms, the mobilization of people into labor groups, and the overall abuse and killings during the Khmer Rouge regime. The progression of scenes deeply affected the students, evoking strong feelings of shock and profound sympathy for the people who lived through that era.
Although the students had to leave at 1:00 PM to attend their regular state school classes before the film ended, they remained highly engaged with the story. At the conclusion of the session, they shared the following reflections:
Neang Sokthanet (Female, 13 years old):
“In this story, I was most struck by the scene where a young girl stole a long bean to eat because she was starving, but the Khmer Rouge caught her and beat her severely. When I saw that, I felt so much pity for her.”
Ron Rachana (Female, 11 years old):
“I was shocked by the scene where the Khmer Rouge killed people by hitting them with an axe; it was truly terrifying. I was also struck by the sight of corpses floating in the water and the description of the foul smell.”
Roeun Raksa (Female, 13 years old):
“For me, I noticed how everyone—both young and old—was forced to work in the rice fields, carry soil, and harvest vegetables. Another point that stood out was that the Khmer Rouge forbade any medicine except for ‘rabbit-dropping’ pellets. There was an uncle in the story who was taken away and killed just because he bought Western medicine for his child. Even though he begged for mercy, they killed him immediately. Watching this film made me feel so sorry for the children and the elderly who were forced to work without enough food, and for those who were killed for even the smallest mistakes.”
Seuong Kanyanita (Female, 13 years old):
“I was interested in the evacuation of people from Phnom Penh. I also saw very young children serving as Khmer Rouge soldiers and carrying guns.”
Seuong July (Female, 12 years old):
“I focused on the boy who stole corn from the Angkar to eat and was caught and beaten badly. Another part that moved me was seeing monks and elderly people being forced to work in the rice fields and plantations.”
Thoeun Kanya (Female, 13 years old):
“I noticed that the Khmer Rouge forced everyone to cut their hair short and required people to dye all of their clothes black. I felt so sorry for all those clothes being ruined.”

នៅវេលាម៉ោង ១១ កន្លះព្រឹក ថ្ងៃទី ១៥ ខែឧសភា ឆ្នាំ២០២៦ មជ្ឈមណ្ឌលឯកសារកម្ពុជា ខេត្តព្រៃវែង បានទទួលស្វាគមន៍ សិស្សានុសិស្សចំនួន ៦ នាក់ (ស្រីទាំង ៦ នាក់) មកពីសាលា អនុវិទ្យាល័យ អនុវត្ត ខេត្តព្រៃវែង។ សិស្សទាំង ៦ នាក់ បានមកកាន់មជ្ឈមណ្ឌលឯកសារកម្ពុជា ខេត្តព្រៃវែង ក្នុងគោលបំណង ទស្សនាខ្សែភាពយន្តឯកសារ «មុនដំបូងខ្មែរក្រហម សម្លាប់ប៉ារបស់ខ្ញុំ»។
តាមរយៈការទស្សនាអំពីសកម្មភាពនៅក្នុងសាច់រឿង ក្នុងរយៈពេល ១ ម៉ោងជាង សិស្សានុសិស្សបានឈ្វេងយល់អំពី ការជម្លៀសប្រជាជនចេញពីទីក្រុង, ការបំបិទសិទ្ធិសេរីភាពប្រជាជន, ការប្រើប្រជាជនឱ្យធ្វើការងារជាក្រុម, ការធ្វើបាប និង ការសម្លាប់មនុស្សនៅក្នុងរបបខ្មែរក្រហម។ លើសពីនេះ ទិដ្ឋភាពនៅក្នុងសាច់រឿងពីមួយដំណាក់កាលទៅមួយដំណាក់កាល បានធ្វើឱ្យសិស្សានុសិស្សមានការប្រតិកម្ម និង អាណិតអាសូរយ៉ាងខ្លាំងចំពោះប្រជាជនដែលរស់នៅក្នុងសម័យនោះ។
ទោះបីជាសិស្សានុសិស្ស មិនបានទស្សនាខ្សែភាពនេះរហូតដល់ចប់ ហើយ បានត្រលប់ ទៅវិញ នៅវេលាម៉ោង ១ និង ០០ នាទី រសៀល ដើម្បីចូលរៀន សាលារដ្ឋ បន្ត ប៉ុន្តែសិស្សានុសិស្សបានបង្ហាញពីការចាប់អារម្មណ៍ នៃសាច់រឿង ហើយនៅចុងបញ្ចប់ សិស្សានុសិស្ស បានបង្ហាញចំណាប់អារម្មណ៍ដូចខាងក្រោម៖
នាង សុខថានេត្រ ភេទស្រី អាយុ ១៣ ឆ្នាំ៖ ចំពោះសាច់រឿងនេះ ខ្ញុំចាប់អារម្មណ៍នៅត្រង់ក្មេងស្រីម្នាក់ បានលួចបេះសណ្តែកកួ ហូប ដោយសារតែគាត់ឃ្លានខ្លាំងពេក ប៉ុន្តែក៏ត្រូវខ្មែរក្រហមឃើញ ហើយវាយគាត់យ៉ាងខ្លាំង។ នៅពេលដែលខ្ញុំ បានឃើញទិដ្ឋភាពនេះ ខ្ញុំមានអារម្មណ៍អាណិតក្មេងស្រីនោះណាស់។
រ៉ន រចនា ភេទស្រី អាយុ ១១ ឆ្នាំ៖ នៅក្នុងសាច់រឿងនេះ ខ្ញុំចាប់អារម្មណ៍ នៅត្រង់ខ្មែរក្រហមសម្លាប់មនុស្សដោយវាយនឹងពូថៅ ពិតជាគួរឱ្យរន្ធត់ណាស់។ ផ្សេងពីនេះ ខ្ញុំចាប់អារម្មណ៍នៅត្រង់ សាកសពដែលត្រូវខ្មែរក្រហមសម្លាប់ នៅអណ្តែតក្នុងទឹក និង មានធំក្លិនស្អុយ។
រឿង រក្សា ភេទស្រី អាយុ ១៣ ឆ្នាំ៖ សម្រាប់ខ្ញុំផ្ទាល់ ខ្ញុំចាប់អារម្មណ៍នៅត្រង់ ប្រជាជនទាំងក្មេងទាំងចាស់ ត្រូវធ្វើស្រែ រែកដី និង បេះបន្លែ ទាំងអស់គ្នា។ ចំណុចដែលខ្ញុំចាប់អារម្មណ៍បន្ទាប់ទៀតនោះគឺ ខ្មែរក្រហម មិនឱ្យប្រជាជនលេបថ្នាំអ្វីផ្សេងក្រៅពីថ្នាំអាចម៍ទន្សាយនោះទេ។ អ៊ំប្រុស ដែលនៅក្នុងសាច់រឿង ត្រូវខ្មែរក្រហម យកទៅសម្លាប់ ដោយសារតែគាត់បានទៅទិញថ្នាំបារាំង មកឱ្យកូនលេប ហើយត្រូវខ្មែរក្រហមចាប់បាន និង យកមកសម្លាប់ភ្លាមៗ ទោះបីជាគាត់ខំអង្វរសុំជីវិតយ៉ាងណាក៏ដោយ។ នៅពេលដែលខ្ញុំបានទស្សនានូវខ្សែភាពយន្តនេះ ខ្ញុំមានអារម្មណ៍អាណិតដល់ ក្មេងៗ និង ចាស់ៗ ដែលត្រូវខ្មែរក្រហម ប្រើឱ្យធ្វើការ និង ពុំឱ្យអារហារហូបគ្រប់គ្រាន់ ហើយអ្នកខ្លះ បានធ្វើខុសតែបន្តិច ត្រូវខ្មែរក្រហម យកទៅសម្លាប់ទៀត។
សឿង កញ្ញានីតា ភេទស្រី អាយុ ១៣ ឆ្នាំ៖ ចំពោះសាច់រឿងនេះ ខ្ញុំមានការចាប់អារម្មណ៍ នៅត្រង់ការជម្លៀសប្រជាជនចេញពីទីក្រុងភ្នំពេញ ហើយ ខ្ញុំឃើញក្មេងៗនៅតូចសោះ ក៏ធ្វើជាទាហានខ្មែរក្រហម កាន់កាំភ្លើងទៅហើយ។
សឿង ជូលី ភេទស្រី អាយុ ១២ ឆ្នាំ៖ ចំពោះខ្ញុំផ្ទាល់ ខ្ញុំចាប់នៅត្រង់ក្មេងប្រុស បានលួចកាច់ពោតអង្គការហូប ហើយក៏ត្រូវខ្មែរក្រហមឃើញ ហើយវាយយ៉ាងដំណំ។ រីឯនៅកន្លែងពិសេសផ្សេងទៀត ខ្ញុំមានការអាណិតដល់ព្រះសង្ឃ និង តាយាយ ដែលត្រូវខ្មែរក្រហម ប្រើឱ្យធ្វើស្រែចម្ការ។
ថើន កញ្ញា ភេទស្រី អាយុ ១៣ ឆ្នាំ៖ នៅក្នុងសាច់រឿងនេះ ខ្ញុំចាប់អារម្មណ៍ នៅត្រង់ខ្មែរក្រហម បានឱ្យប្រជាជនកាត់សក់ខ្លី ហើយ ឱ្យប្រជាជនយកសម្លៀកបំពាក់ ទៅជ្រលក់ព័ណ៌ ឱ្យក្លាយជាព័ណ៌ខ្មៅ។ សម្រាប់ខ្ញុំ គឺខ្ញុំមានអារម្មណ៍សោកស្តាយខោអាវទាំងអស់នោះជាខ្លាំង។
