17 April 1975… “Phnom Penh Surrenders to Rebel Forces after Offer of a Cease-Fire is Rejected
It is important to preserve the history of the Khmer Rouge because it memorializes a very difficult time in Cambodian history during which enormous crimes against the Cambodian people were perpetrated by cadres of largely uneducated peasants who managed to seize power and had no concept of how it should be used to create a better society. So, preserving is a means to accuracy, not being manipulated. It’s a public history. It’s part of us. So, rather than not preserving it, we should first embrace it, making sure that they are most useful not only for all, but also the future generations.
