When the war is over, love begins: A simple wedding of a Cambodian soldier living in a village near the Cambodia-Laos border
Following the end of Thailand’s invasive war against Cambodia’s territory and sovereignty, the sound of gunfire and fierce battle along the Cambodian–Thai border have come to a halt. With the return of calmness, displaced Cambodians are now able to go back to their home and villages. The transition from the terrifying sounds of explosions and bombardments to a state of complete silence and from war to peace reflects upon the hopes and aspirations of Cambodian people. As the nation embraces this moment of peace, a Cambodian soldier from a village near the Cambodia–Lao border begins a new chapter in his life through marriage. On January 2, 2026, Seng Bandit, a Cambodian soldier from the 1st Military Region, carried his fiancée’s hands, Chhean Sophann, to take their pre-wedding photographs at the Physical Legacy of Sangkum Reastr Niyum King Father–Queen Mother (Borei O’Svay–Sen Chey) of the Queen Mother Library and Documentation Center of Cambodia.
