Promoting Democracy and Good Governance Through Youth Leadership in Volunteer Civil Action – Takeo Documentation met with Youth Volunteers – September 15, 2025

Date: September 15, 2025
Time: 14:00 – 15:45

Four youth volunteers (two female) – Chin Sothear (M), Ith Sisrean (M), Tha Chan Thla (F), and Phy Chanthou (F) – from the Takeo Regional Teacher Training Center (RTTC) met with Pheng Pong-Rasy at the Takeo Documentation Center. The purpose of the meeting was to review the questionnaire they will use to interview Khmer Rouge survivors and to discuss key points for working with survivors and authorities.

The questionnaire contains five sections: Personal and Family Information; Experiences during the KR Regime; Current Health Conditions; Expectations for Community Development; and Family Members Who Served as Soldiers. The group discussed every question to ensure everyone understood their role during the interviews.

One female volunteer, a pre-service teacher from Banteay Meanchey province, asked if she could interview survivors there. Rasy agreed to her request.

Rasy also explained how to gather detailed information. For the section on experiences, he asked the volunteers to focus on the survivors’ unique personal stories, not general experiences like starvation or forced labor.
After the discussion, the volunteers felt confident in their ability to conduct the interviews effectively. Before returning to the RTTC, each volunteer received two T-shirts, 10 copies of Searching for the Truth Magazine, and 20 copies of the questionnaire.
